While reading journals of people somehow linked to poupou I
noticed that it seemed like everybody was either sad, desperate,
lonely, bitter, depressed, angry. Are they always that, or is it
the nature of the medium that encourages that?

And noticing that I became vaguely sad, sort of lonely, rather
bitter, depressed and pissed off so I thought I better get back in
the habit of putting some journal stuff into my warp.

We've all got dysthymia. Wordnet has a lovely bit about that:
