Message to Ralf and Kathryn and closing down my L600 associated with the augury readings group. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Chris Dent <cdent@burningchrome.com> Date: Fri, 9 Aug 2002 01:46:59 -0500 (EST) Subject: L600 closing down My L600 involving the Augury readings group should be coming to a close tomorrow. I'm hoping we can call it complete, evaluate it. and get it down in the books. I list (with minor summaries) some of my posts to show my contribution and act as something of a coda. We did not read all the desired books, hoist lots of documents to Arts nor have an incredibly diverse collection of active participants in the discussions (although we did have a very diverse and interesting group); however, it has been one of the most intellectually stimulating and educational events of my life. I hope it will continue with some kind of augury II. I posted 48 of the 150 messages in the archive. This either makes me a windbag, a little overexcited or both. It certainly took a great deal of time and energy. It's stunning to read the entire archive http://www.burningchrome.com: 8000/archives/augury/ from end to end in one sitting. Quite remarkable stuff going on in there. Please let me know if there is additional work I should do before we call the for-credit aspect of this work done. I very much hope it will continue outside the for-credit context. Thanks. -=-=- Some of my postings: http:// www.burningchrome.com/archives/augury/msg00002.html My first post of an additional reference that supported some of the ideas we were exploring. A paper from Elin Jacob. http:// www.burningchrome.com/archives/augury/msg00034.html "analogical and a bit about embodiment, interfaces and augmentation" in which I bring in a lot from second version of the PORT paper http:// www.burningchrome.com/~cdent/uviz/portpaper2.html and the final paper I wrote for L542 http:// www.burningchrome.com/~cdent/arts/my/1.1.wiki and tie them both in to Bardini's analysis of Engelbart's motivations with Augmentation. (It turns out there are a lot of connections here with Clark as well, but the lack of active discussion and my recognition that I was sometimes the only voice in a crowd made me a bit reluctant to continue the conversation with myself.) http:// www.burningchrome.com/archives/augury/msg00036.html My answer to the question "What do you want to accomplish with this readings group?" One answer is here: http:// www.burningchrome.com/archives/augury/msg00036.html#nid06 and the described goal was reached.
