Andrew Pam is (or was) a principal in a company called Xanadu Australia which was created to further work on the Xanadu project. He presents the ways in which the web (WWW) does not fulfill the destinies described by Xanadu:

  • Lack of transparent support for mirroring
  • Lack of an underlying distributed file system
  • Lack of bivisibility and bifollowability
  • Lack of versioning and alternates
  • Limited support for metadata
  • Limited support for Computer Mediated Communication
  • Cyberspace/"Hyperspace" as a pervasive user interface metaphor
  • Limited support for transclusions
  • Transcopyright - the Xanadu solution for business on the Net
  • New financial instruments for the new media
(bivisibility and bifollowability are aspects of the bi-directional nature of links in full_hypertext).
